Dieselpunk Halloween 2015

With Halloween nearly upon us, I thought I would pass along a few suggestions.

Reading
The Works of H.P. Lovecraft
H.P. Lovecraft’s proto-dieselpunk stories make for the perfect reading material for any time of the year but especially during Halloween. If you like to read your material online, you can read all of his stories free at dagonbytes.com.

You can also read his works at http://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/

Although, if you prefer to read you material in hard copy then I recommend “The Best of H.P. Lovecraft: Bloodcurdling Tales of Horror and the Macabre” along with other Lovecraft short stories published by Ballantine/ Del Rey. Michael Whelan wonderfully illustrates the cover of each book.

Necronomicon (Gothic Dreams) Hardcover – March 20, 2015

Necronomicon by Sammy Maine is a fantastic book that combines gothic art with the exploration of Lovecraft’s evil mythical tome, The Necronomicon. Maine follows the story of the book from Lovecraft’s creation, the belief among some Lovecraft fans in the reality of the Grimoire, and the various publications claiming to be the real thing.

Movie
Young Frankenstein
If you want to watch something fun this Halloween, I highly recommend Mel Brooks, “Young Frankenstein”. This fantastic spoof of the Frankenstein movies made by Universal Pictures made in the 1930s starred Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Teri Garr, Cloris Leachman, Peter Boyle, and (Madeline Kahn.
